PAUL PRUETT fought Cody Connell in the second fight of the night. The was a small stand up exchange and then Cody shot in for a successful take down. They were against the fence and Paul was able to stand back up. Later in the fight, Paul went for an upper body throw but didn’t complete the turn and Cody landed in top mount. Paul escaped the mount and got a guillotine choke but was unable to finish it. The fight went to round two. Both fighters ended up in a clinch against the cage for a while until Cody got a second takedown. Cody got top side mount and was able to finish the fight via TKO from ground and pound.
LUKE RUTZ fought Jay Wymer in the fifth fight of the night. Luke used his reach on the stand up exchange. Jay shot in for a takedown. Luke countered that and repeated drives for the takedown, landing some knees in the process. From the feet Luke started coming around towards Jay’s back. In the struggle Luke felt Jay get off balance and Luke drove in. They both went to the ground and Jay, hitting his head on the mat, had a momentary flash knock out. Luke jumped to mount and finished the fight.
I’ve said this before. It takes a lot to compete and anyone who gets in the ring is a champion, good job all!

On Saturday June 11th Steve Johnson fought against Kirk Paitt in the 180lb 4 man elimination tournament. Steve looked to be the more comfortable of the two in the stand up exchange. When the cage was near Steve’s back Paitt shot and got a high single leg take-down. Once down Steve rolled for a knee bar. Piatt defended the submission and that put Steve in a bad bottom position. Paitt was able to drop strikes from above and won with a TKO victory (Paitt latter went on to win the tournament). Anyone who steps into the cage is a champion and we’re proud of you Steve.
Due to the popularity of the Yoga and the Kids classes we must split them to two different days.
STARTING THE WEEK OF JUNE 14th
The Yoga class will be moved to Fridays at 5:00 – 6:00 pm.
We apologize for any inconvenience this change will cause and hope all will still be able to attended. The switch will provide much more room for all participants.
With the inclusion of the Serial Boxe gym to AMA there have been quite a few fights lately.
coming up:
FRIDAY JUNE 11TH
AMA Steve Johnson will be fighting on the ‘Beat Down III’ cancer benefit show in an 8 man tournament. All the elimination fights will be done that night until there is one winner. This is a big deal so please come on out and support Steve, the School, and families battling cancer (a portions of the ticket sales go towards this cause). The event will be held at the Grizzly Rose.
coming up:
FRIDAY JUNE 25TH
Serial Boxe Diana Rael, Ali Hanjani and Julian Gonzales will be fighting on the Battle of the Warriors show held at Red & Jerry’s. Diana and Ali are on as pro-fights. See Ben or Mr. P. for tickets.
past event:
FRIDAY MAY 29TH
Gerard Franchois, Ali Hanjani and Ben Schissler traveled and fought in Wyoming. Gerard’s fight was stopped by the referee and ruled as a TKO against Gerard (everyone that I talked to that saw his fight said that the stoppage was premature). Ali made his pro-debut and finished his opponent in the 1st round. Ben returned to the cage after having to take a break from injuries. He was the main event and ended his fight in 17 seconds and earned ‘Knock Out of the Night’. Good job guys!
The school will be closed Monday for Memorial Day.
Please see your instructor to schedule any private lesson remakes.
Four of our guys grappled in the 2010 Colorado State BJJ Championships. Paul Pruet submitted to an arm bar. Jeremy Leonard went the distance in his match and lost by points. Robert Beteta took 3rd place in his division. Young Eric Estrada took 1st place and then went on to be the Absolute Champion, defeating all the winners from the others youth divisions. All our guys made us proud!
Ben’s Serial Boxe guys fought latter that night on the Rocky Mountain Bad Boyz show. Ali Hanjani had a good exchange with his opponent but ended up submitting to a rear naked choke. Julian Gonzalez’s opponent could answer the bell due to damage from strikes. Diana Ryel defeated her opponent with strikes from mount. It was a good day all around.

This benefit is to help and support a gentleman who is battling with a heart condition (a defective valve). He’s a tattoo artist and his work (as displayed by Jessi F.) is very fine indeed. The benefit is being held Sunday May 9th 12pm-7pm at the Rock Rest Lodge (16005 Mount Vernon Rd., Golden, Co. 80401). A $10 donation at the door gets you: motorcycle & car show, silent auction, climbing wall, live band, food, and good times. Come on down, have fun and help a person in need out.
